Occupational Health and Safety is a preventive discipline. It has its biggest impact in preventing injury and illness. However the effectiveness of preventive activities are more difficult to measure.
Workplace Vaccination
There are a few vaccine preventable diseases that can be encountered in certain industry sectors and a risk assessment should be done to see if additional personal protective measures are need to safeguard worker health and safety. These include:
- Influenza
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Q Fever
All employees should be able to date with Australian Immunisation Schedule vaccinations e.g. tetatnus, measles mump rubella. If not or there is any doubt contact us for advice and assistance.
Audiometry & Hearing Loss Prevention
Workplaces are required to monitor the hearing of employees in noisy workplaces.
Chemical Exposure Surveillance
In Australia potential exposure to certain chemicals requires mandated monitoring where existing controls are insufficient. Such chemicals are listed in the OH & S legislation of each Australian jurisdiction.
