Is this your first Medical?
If so you must have an Aviation Reference Number (ARN) before you can do the medical.
How Do I Get an ARN?
You may apply for an ARN on the CASA website.
What Class of Medical Certificate?
You need to decide based on what sort of flying/aircraft type you want to operate.
Student Pilots
Must have a minimum Basic or Class 2 before attempting solo flight.
Haven’t Done a Medical Recently?
If it’s more than 5 years past the expiry date on your last medical you will have to do an original again.
If you need a CASA medical done, whether for the first time, or, a renewal, you have come to the right place. We can do class 1,2 & 3 medicals, complete routine age related tests and arrange any additional referrals you may need.
Age Related Mandatory Tests
C1O & C3O
Tests required on the Initial issue of a medical certificate are:
- Resting Electrocardiogram (RECG)
- Audiogram
- Lipids & Glucose (fasting)*
- Specialist eye examination by a CASA Designated Aviation Ophthalmologist (DAO) or Credentialed Optometrist.
Tests required for medical certificate renewals are:
- RECGs — required at the first renewal after age 25, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38 and 40 years of age. After 40, they are required annually.
- Audiograms — required at the first renewal after age 25 years then are required every fifth age birthday.
- Fasting lipids and glucose – required at the first renewal after the age of 25 years and every five years until age 60, when they are required annually.
- Eye examination – required by a CASA Designated Aviation Ophthalmologist or Credentialed Optometrist at age 60 years every two years thereafter.
Class 2
There are no special requirements, unless clinically indicated.
Cardiovascular Risk Score (CRS)
- Is required by CASA to be calculated at certain times.
- Involves calculating a point score
- A score over 14 triggers a requirement for a stress ECG (SECG).
- It is based on large validated population data & uses various parameters including lipid levels & whether diabetic or not hence the need for fasting bloods periodically.
Other Aviation Medicals
- Basic Class 2
- RAMPC (Recreational Avaiation Medical Practitioner Certificate
A Basic Class 2 certificate is more restrictive than a full Class 2 medical certificate. It restricts the holder to;- Maximum take off wt MTOW of 8618kgs singe piston engine
- Max 5 PAX Day VFR rules only below 10000ft in altitude
- No use of operational ratings or endorsements
A RAMPC is more restrictive again flying a single engine aircraft with a MTOW of 1500kgs, 1 PAX only & use of operational ratings endorsements*.
*Exception is if there is a pilot in a control seat who hods a Class 1/2 medical
